Cubic Zirconia (CZ) is an inexpensive Diamond alternative with many of the same qualities as a Diamond. This crystalline material (or CZ) is synthetic, which means it is created in a laboratory. Cubic Zirconia is a colourless, synthetic gemstone made of the cubic crystalline form of zirconium dioxide. CZ's can appear in nature within the mineral baddeleyite, although it’s extremely rare. It is available in almost any colour you can imagine and there are even some colour change (fluorescent/incandescent, i.e. blue/red for example) varieties. Like Diamonds, Cubic Zirconia has a high hardness making it extremely durable. Unlike Diamonds, CZ stones are optically flawless. CZ's can be used as an alternative birthstone for April. While April is traditionally associated with Diamonds, some people have chosen to use Cubic Zirconia instead as a more affordable, ethical, and environmentally-friendly choice.
